With over 50,000 acres of rural land in the real estate inventory of TerraPointe LLC (the company that owns Rethink:Rural), it is important to know exactly what potential rural land buyers want.

Do they want huge, sprawling properties, or just enough land to build a house on? How far are they willing to be from conveniences like stores and doctors' offices? And why do they want to move there? Is it the freedom of getting out from under a Home Owners Association's strict guidelines? Is it the fresh air? The peace and quiet?

Raydient Places + Properties, the company owns Rethink:Rural, decided to find out with the help of FGI Research, a marketing research firm. They tracked down more than 400 people who are seriously looking into buying rural land. Here is what those people said mattered to them:
